ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION: The Way We Were Project

Local Studies have been proactive in collecting the Oral Histories of Fairfield residents and has now achieved over 190 recordings, from people of backgrounds including, Assyrian, Lao, Polish, Spanish, Vietnamese, Pioneers and old Fairfield families, war veterans, police officers, mayors and Members of Parliament.

To meet the high demand for access to this material from our local community and wider, Local Studies has been digitising existing recordings and making this collection available online so that it serves as a model of a successful multicultural community.

You can access digital audio version of our oral histories from the Library website by clicking here.

Complete versions of the Oral Histories are available to listen to in the Reference Library at the The Whitlam Library in Cabramatta. Please contact our Heritage Librarian on 02 9725 0347 to arrange your visit.
